Join Amplify to Sound the Alarm Against Deadly Home Fires
We began our Safe Place to Call Home initiative with an ambitious goal: to work towards securing safe and affordable housing for every family in Texas. As part of this, we frequently collaborate with other leaders in the non-profit community to identify ways to best use the time and resources of our team. Organizations like the American Red Cross have a storied tradition of assisting families in need, in good times and in bad, and that’s why we’re proud to announce an organization-wide volunteer day on Saturday, April 27 to assist in their annual Sound the Alarm: Save a Life campaign.
The American Red Cross launched the Sound the Alarm: Save a Life initiative as a way to prevent deadly home fires. Every year, in cities across the country, Red Cross volunteers help install smoke alarms and draw up escape plans for families for families and their homes. In 2018 alone, Sound the Alarm resulted in more than 100,000 new smoke alarms nationally that saved at least 500 lives. They’re doing it again this year, and Amplify Credit Union is helping.
The good news? You can, too.
Consider this our personal invitation to join Amplify and its team in this once-a-year event. Volunteers will gather on Saturday, April 27, at St. James Missionary Baptist Church and run through a quick training on the installation and maintenance of home smoke alarms. You will then walk door-to-door in your designated neighborhood in groups of three, installing new smoke alarms, changing batteries, and working with families to develop escape plans. If you have a conflict but still want to support the American Red Cross, you can also donate to the Sound the Alarm: Save a Life fundraising page.
